Often, ladders result in compliance issues, safety concerns and lost time. They account for roughly 20% of workplace fall injuries—a number that jumps to 81% in the construction industry—and as a result of ladder use, about 90,000 people per year receive emergency room treatment.

Although it’s easy to argue that ladders are still useful tools when used properly, the numbers show that proper use can fall by the wayside on busy job sites. In 2018, for example, ladders were listed as one of OSHA’s Top 10 Violations with 2,780 citations issued.
