The Impact of ANSI Standards on Rental

How will the new ANSI standards impact the rental industry?

The rental industry will face required training under Supervisor Training, Occupant Training and Maintenance and Repair Personnel Training. A major addition to the ANSI standard is the requirement that the user must ensure all personnel who directly supervise MEWP operators are trained with the following:

• Proper selection of the MEWP for the worksite
• The rules, regulations and standards that apply to MEWPs
• Potential hazards associated with use of MEWPs
• Knowledge of the manufacturer’s operating manual(s)

There is also the requirement that job site risk assessments must take place. Tied to risk assessments is the new requirement that supervisors of MEWP operators must receive training.
