Through extensive conversations with customers, we’ve redesigned our entire line of telehandlers with new engineering solutions that improve serviceability and durability, while lowering total cost of ownership (TCO) through the life of the machines.
Serviceability of equipment like telehandlers is a significant issue for rental customers. Scheduled maintenance and unexpected repairs keep equipment off rent—and that downtime costs owners money. Updates to our telehandlers include longer service intervals, a revamped cylinder design and upgrades to overall durability.
Improved serviceability
Rental customers cite serviceability as having a big impact on TCO. The new telehandlers see the service interval double from 500 to 1,000 hours. Larger engine oil capacity and more accessible oil filters reduce the frequency of oil changes and shorten the time it takes to do the service.
Cylinder redesign and placement for reduced service time
Another boost in serviceability comes from the new approach to cylinder design and placement. Moving the telescopic cylinders from inside the boom to the top gives better access. A switch to a single compensation and lift cylinder design means fewer components to maintain.
Increased durability
Wear and tear can put a dent in machines—and, eventually, machine uptime. To help offset daily rigors, JLG® telehandlers got an upgrade in durability thanks to higher quality fabrication and materials. On the outside, fiberglass engine hoods were replaced with heat- and impact-resistant DuraTough hoods.
At ground level, Firestone DuraForce MH tires replace lug-style or super ground grip (SGG) tires with a directional tread design, which tend to wear quickly on hard surfaces. When mounted, the sidewall of SGG-type tires bulge beyond the rim surface, leading to costly sidewall damage. The new DuraForce MH tires were designed specifically for JLG® telehandlers and deliver three to four times the wear of the previous style tires. They also have a stiffer sidewall and lower profile, making them less likely to sustain sidewall damage. Plus, because DuraForce MH tires are non-directional, they require one less part number to stock.
Diagnostics options for faster service
When unexpected repair issues come up, efficient troubleshooting helps get equipment back in service. JLG® telehandlers now offer an optional multifunction display with built-in analyzer capability that provides diagnostic details on the whole machine. This expanded option helps operators and technicians quickly troubleshoot a problem and makes service calls more efficient.

In addition, the multifunctional display highlights the lubrication schedule and visual illustration of lubrication points, as well as the maintenance schedule for each model. Our machines also feature wires with clear labeling that assist technicians in diagnosing electrical issues faster and, thereby, increase machine utilization.
Small changes, big impact
High-quality parts and components go a long way in keeping repair and replacement costs down. Features like lockable caps with lanyards for fuel, DEF and hydraulic tanks keep users from filling them with the wrong fluids, preventing expensive repairs. The lanyards also prevent caps from being lost to help avoid replacement costs. The locking cab and engine compartments help prevent theft and vandalism.
Quality components, greater durability and improvements in service intervals in redesigned JLG® telehandlers deliver lower TCO—and higher value—to rental customers. See the full specs for JLG® telehandlers to explore cost-saving features.
